Dr. Gildred Colón graduated from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Science Campus in 1973. She did her internship in New Haven, Connecticut at the hospital affiliated to Yale University. Her Residency in Internal Medicine and the Fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism were done at the University Hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Dr. Colon has her American Boards of Internal Medicine and the American Boards of Endocrinology and Metabolism. She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha, Honor Medical Society and of multiple professional societies. She has been president of the PR Society of Endocrinology and Diabetology and member and secretary of the Board of Directors of the PR Chapter of the ACP (American College of Physicians- American Society of Internal Medicine). She holds fellowship in the ACP, fellowship in the American College of Endocrinology and Fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, where she practiced for 4 years and was Vice-President of the Regina Chapter of the Canadian Diabetes Association.

In the Armed Forces, she attained the rank of Captain and Major during her active duty service. She received an honorable discharge after organizing and directing the first ever diabetes summer camp of the ARMY, NAVY and AIR FORCE. During the decade of the 90's, she directed the Fellowship Training Program in Endocrinology and Diabetology at the San Juan City Hospital.

At the present time, she is President and CEO of the American Telemedicine Center Corp, where she developed the first telemedicine network program in PR for diabetes disease management with the help of a federal grant from the United States Department of Agriculture. As the medical director of ATC, she created WebDMEMR.com, a continuity of care web based electronic medical record with features for clinical trials. The clinical research center facility within American Telemedicine Center was chosen as 1 of the 5 "Portfolio" clinical investigational sites of Eli Lilly & Company.
